Stone cage mesh is made of 8 × 10 double twisted hexagonal mesh according to ASTM A95-97, and then filled with stones to be used for building flexible and sturdy river embankments, channel linings, and erosion control projects for embankments.

The metal wire used for the gabion net is a soft steel wire coated with a thick layer of zinc (with a 5% zinc plating, made of aluminum alloy [zinc-5 aluminum magnesium alloy]).

PVC layer is used in polluted and corrosive environments, such as salt, fresh water, acidic soil, etc. The PVC layer is usually 0.02 feet thick (0.50mm). Separate a small cage with a thin film about 3 feet (0.9m) in the middle of the gabion net. The thicker metal wires at the edges are used to reinforce the structure of the gabion mesh.
